Odd morning

So here it is, 8:40 in the morning, and I have been awake for atleast an hour. This promises to be a very strange day.

I had the coolest dream last night. There was a song in my head, lyrics and a melody, and they were just flowing out. Sometimes I would have to stop and change a word or note, but the creative feeling was just wonderful. I woke up thinking "This must be what it feels like to be Tracie." Of course Awake I can't remember any of the song, but the feeling still remains.

Many of you who read my post will know who Tracie is, for those of you who don't I would suggest going here http://www.reverbnation.com/traciecallahan . She is a very talented folk singer/song writer, a wonderful human being, and a great friend. *Watches Tracie Hide from all the praise* And she is modest too. ;)

In other odd news, Hubby and I rearranged the bedroom last night. Our room is not huge, so we basicly just changed the orientation of the bed, which is huge. When Maia came to bed she settled down in her usual spot. Her Usual spot relative to the room that is, not the bed. I wound up spending the night with a kitten tucked behind my knees...

Oh and for those who are interested, my version of the hardwick hall oak leaf pillow is going well. Though my miscalculation of how many stitches per inch is going to make my pattern a tad more dense. If I keep the pillow the same size as the original, I'll have 200 leaves as compared to their 105. I have 4 leaves completed at the moment. *chuckles*

You really have to appreciate a job where you get to open boxes of body parts. OK Maybe it is just me...

So the next month and a half I am going to disappear into Full time + Jobs. The next day I KNOW I have off is Harvest Moon. I'm still working at the fabric store, and I have taken on a temp job at Spirit of Halloween. Funny how I keep finding jobs where I like to spend money.

On the crafty front, I have finished a small needlepoint based on a period cushion at Hardwick Hall. All of the research done on it says that there are more than just the half cross stich involved, so I am now working on a sampler of stiches. Once I feel comfortable with that, my hope is to reproduce the whole cushion. So, If any of you have research on the Oak Leaf cushion I would love to hear it. :) Looks like a bigger version of this:

The cushion is not singled out in the inventories, unfortunately.

Ok I am still working on Dree's Meme, But here is another.

Your result for Reincarnation Placement Exam...

Garden of Eden

35% Intrigue, 44% Civilization, 51% Humanity, 33% Urbanization.

It's the Garden of Eden for you!

Well, this is about as cozy and simple as life can get. We hope you like it here. The real estate is not well developed, but the garden is top-flight.

Your answers indicate that you basically want to just coast through life. You don't want any trouble, and you don't want any special privileges either. That's fine with us. It's entirely possible to live a pleasant life without trouble or strife, and Eden is the perfect spot for it, as long as you don't... well...

Just try to behave better than the previous tenants. Evictions can be rough.

So I was recently made aware of the return and ending of a favorite web comic of mine. The wait was well worth it! I highly recommend Casey and Andy  - galactanet.com/comic/view.php  Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

1860 - The discovery of the planet Vulcan is announced at a meeting of the Académie des Sciences in Paris.
1872 - Brigham Young is arrested on charges of bigamy for having 25 wives.

1920 - Isaac Asimov, Russian author (d. 1992)
1939 - Jim Bakker, American televangelist

And as my father remarked about this momentous day. "Not only did you miss christmas and New Years, but you missed being the first baby baby born in the hospital and the deadline to be a tax write-off."

OK so frequent updates are obviously not going to be my thing, neither are long involved posts I think.

On the crafty front, I have made a bit of progress with crewel work.

This is the badge for my SCAdian household, Haus Wanderstamm. While the Falcon came out well, the stump has a horizonal texture I had not intended. The badge is also no quite symmetrical. Even so I am quite proud of it. I am thinking of making a few more and attaching them to my dresses.

While at pennsic I did manage to take a couple of classes, though my intention had been for much more. Not surprising,y the 2 classes I made were both weaving classes. One on weaving brocade on a four shaft loom, and one on how to chart your own design for said brocade. Both classes were very enjoyable, and I came home bursting with ideas. Ideas I will get to as soon as I finish warping this first project. I had forgotten how long it takes to warp a loom.  I have probably over done it, as this piece has 624 ends and is in a heddle pattern I have never attempted before so I have to quadruple check myself for waping errors. Ah well... When I am done I should have a nice orchid/melon huck towel with an overshot border of egyptian lotus, or at the very least an OK towel with some odd patterned border.

I also came back from pennsic with a Nice Hat!

It was one of the first purchases I made because I just couldn't leave it behind. Then I realized I didn't ahve anything to go with it, so I picked up the ropa you see there. I must say, I looked snazzy in them. *chuckles* In the background you can see my loom and  the orchid cotten. Also purchased were several books, a middle eastern vest and poofy pants (It was hot there), mugs for the nieces (Insolent Minion and Disgruntled Minion), a long wooden needle to ise as a loom pick, a wooden lucet, and ... I think thats all. Pennsic for me was a shopping event.  Oddly enough I didn't buy any yarn...

OK so this doesn't bode well. I have a ton of packing to do,  sekanjabin to make, and atleast 2 dresses to finish, if not more. *sighs* I feel like the walking dead this morning.

On the good side, I've been able to talk to a good friend of mine every morning for the last 3. It's been a while since I have spoken to her, given there is an entire ocean between us. Talking to her is making me consider rejoining the Stargate Atlantis Forum that I had been heavily involved in. (here) I'm just not sure I can play and not get sucked into admin. *shrugs* We will see.

Thanks Dree...

Egon

So... I've spent most of the morning taking quizes instead of foodshopping, cleaning, garbmaking, and a gizzlion other things I should be doing.  However I'll only post one result bacause it made me happy.

Your result for Which Ghostbuster are you?...

Egon Spengler

You are Egon. More a skeptic than a believer, you're always looking for the most logical explanation. Most of the Ghostbusters' gadgets have come from you, and your extremely strict, scientific dissection of things yields knowledge that no one else could have even thought of. If not for you, the Ghostbusters wouldn't have much to battle the paranormal with.

PS Oddly enough Darling Hubby came up as Ray... I would have pegged him an Egon for sure.

Well here I am...

Mlah

I have been considering making a blog about the various projects in my life. Then I discovered many of my friends (including Darling Hubby) have Live Journals. I guess this is the place to be. Not sure how good I will be at the updating thing, we will just have to see.

So on a whim, I picked up the embroidery challenge at GNE. Now the last time I had done anything like it was a minor blackwork band 3 years ago, before that I was 10-ish. So imagine my surprise when I won! Yes I am a costume/fiber arts nut, but not usually of this genre. I'm hooked now.
RawrThis is a design I created almost 20 years ago, when I first Joined the SCA. I had just finished reading 'In pursuit of the green lion' and had been thinking of using one in my heraldry. When I decided on something else, the sketch languished in my various pictures file. In searching for an image to play with, I found this and thought 'why not'. It came out better than I expected.  I used 5 different stitches, Chain, Stem, Satin, Burden, and Fishbone. As well as One French knot ...not a favorite. I've learned them all in the last week from a great book I picked up at a second hand book place. Crewel Embroidery by Erica Wilson I know Crewel is considered barely period, but I feel it is fitting that I learn it.

Unfortunately this, like my weaving, will have to be set aside of the next couple of weeks as I prepare for Pennsic. My hope is to have 1 flemish overdress, 1 flemish underdress, 4 smocks, and one viking apron (for the really warm days) finished in 2 less than 2 weeks. Meep!
